Hep A and B
Get your Hep A and B shots now...
Hepatitis is a viral infection that causes damage to the liver. Both Hep A and Hep B are easily passed on during sex.
- Hep A – from traces of shit when rimming or fingering.
- Hep B – if you get infected cum, spit or blood into your mouth and eyes, or onto broken skin.
Hep A and B are pretty common in the gay community. Young blokes in their teens and twenties are a lot less likely to have any natural protection against Hep A and B so it’s especially important for young guys to get vaccinated.
If you think you’ve picked up hepatitis, see a doctor or health care worker. Many people have no symptoms when first infected. Over time, symptoms may include loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea, yellowing of the skin and eyes, and dark urine.
Get a little a prick – or three...
The Hep A and B vaccination gives you protection for several years – and once you’ve finished the course of three injections you’ll probably just need the occasional booster.
They’re easy to get and are usually free at sexual heath centres. GPs charge around $150.
